2 Who was Carl Jung Born in Kesswil, Switzerland on July 26, 1875
Died 6 June 1961 He was an influential psychologist and psychotherapist. He founded the study of analytical psychology. He theorized the “extrovert” and “introvert” personality types. He was an early supporter of Sigmund Freud, but the two became rivals after a series of disagreements.

3 Early Life Carl Jung was very observant, beginning from a young age
He was a more isolated and attentive individual which influenced his work in his later life Jung got married to Emma at a young age and they had five children.

5 Schooling Attended a boarding school in Switzerland.
First career choice was archeology but then decided to study medicine Graduated from the University of Basel in 1900 Got his masters from the University of Zurich in 1902

6 Career Carl Jung developed numerous psychological theories.
Taught Classes at the University of Zurich Drafted as a doctor into the military during WWI Analyzed Nazi Leaders in WWII for The United States Office of Strategic Services

7 His Theories As stated previously, he developed the categorical personality types extroversion and introversion. He later expanded on this idea to be based on four functions of the mind- thinking, feeling, sensation and intuition Idea that there was 3 states of the psyche~ ego, personal unconscious and collective unconscious Individuation

8 Relationship with Freud
Jung worked very closely with Freud for 5 years until they parted due to conflicting views on particular topics They parted in 1914, citing major theoretical differences. Sigmund Freud stated that Jung’s religious beliefs were “unscientific”. This rejection led to the deterioration of their friendship.

11 Leadership Understanding people’s personalities and how they work with others Helps you understand what motivates people This relates to leadership as it deals with personalities and Jung enjoyed watching people interact. Different personalities can be used within leadership as everyone will have something new to add to a group to make it better.
