6 Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative
GSSI is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative to streamline seafood purchasing decisions while promoting sustainability AK RFM 1st to achieve GSSI recognition in July 2016! Value of GSSI increases with more recognized programs! One of the most important things to happen to the seafood certification landscape in the last 5+ years has been GSSI - GSSI stands for Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative GSSI is NOT a standard GSSI is not an ecolabel Initiative started in 2011 & AK has been actively involved from the beginning RFM Pilot Audit Completed: June 2015 Final Benchmark Tool Launched: Oct 2015 Full Audit Completed Feb 2016 / 30-day Public Comment ended April 10th Formal recognition announcement July 2016 Iceland recognized in November 2016 / MSC recognized in March 2017 / GAA just announced October 2017!

8 Modified Procurement Policies
5 of top 10 global food retailers Continued growth So, the biggest impacts of GSSI…..and exactly what we want to be seeing…..is retailers modifying their procurement policies to recognize those certification programs that have been successfully benchmarked. These are some of them and the list is growing. A BIG one was Walmart who came out earlier this year with their public statement of support and modification to their sourcing policy.
