2 Update on CYP participation strategy
Engaged the public at Walthamstow Garden Party – July 2017 Created film with partners Capturing the voice of children and young people Planning group has been meeting regularly and all partner organisations well engaged Partners agreed to create an inclusive toolkit rather than a strategy – this is to improve standards of engagement and provide the resources and information to involve the right people at the right time Presented at Children’s Health and Wellbeing sub committee – happy with work and approach to create a toolkit

Membership; NHS Waltham Forest CCG Waltham Forest Council NELFT Voluntary sector (Community Waltham Forest and Healthwatch) Barts Health NHS Trust Education sector (Leyton Sixth Form) Community safety (Metropolitan Police) Working together to collate appropriate resources and stakeholder mapping for those wishing to engage children and young people across the borough.

4 Existing channels used to reach children and young people
Face-to-face Social media Over the summer people from across NHS and local authority teams have met to map out all the current ways that exist of gathering feedback and involving young people, and started to gather the views of local young people too. In the diagram that you can see behind me - each hexagonal represents a channel belonging to either CCG, council, Barts, NELFT or other partner Blue edge – face to face – red edge – social media Council represented in green – most prolific (NELFT yellow, CCG royal blue, Barts light blue, NHSE mid blue, purple – healthwatch, grey – Met Police) Represents just some but already have: 15 social media channels across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram 26 channels that offer opportunities for face-to-face engagement with young people including: Youth Empowerment Squad YIAG (Waltham Forest) WF Young Advisors Children and family centres CYP Health and Wellbeing Forum LAC Strategic Board Patient Reference Group Patient Participation Groups Whipps Cross Hospital Patients Panel Children's Health and Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee NHS Youth Fourm Youth Champions Youth Council Children in Care Council Care Leavers Forum Quarterly play session for under 12 year olds Parks Champions Voices in Partnership Local area co-ordinators Feel good young ambassadors School sports leagues Sports club directory Sports awards Young carers Community Cohesion Youth Activists Now for the video - (JULIA WILL PRESS PLAY ON THE VIDEO)

6 Next steps Can the voluntary sector help us find more groups?
Can the voluntary sector tell us about their strategies and community needs for involving children and young people? We need to best practice resources. Such as, SEND specific advice. Partners to identify and develop a platform to host toolkit

7 Patient and Public Participation in Health and Care Convention
Date and time: 21 February 2018, 15:30 to 19:30 Venue: Chingford Assembly Hall, Station Road, E4 6AG The event aims to give everyone attending an understanding of opportunities for patient and public participation in health and care in the area, how these fit together, and how we can all work together to involve more people. As well as hearing from us about up and coming public involvement opportunities, we would like to hear from you about groups and individuals that you think we could be working with. Who can attend? You need to be living or working in Waltham Forest, Redbridge or West Essex, and consider your local hospital to be Whipps Cross.

During the event there will be presentations and workshops on: Developing a community involvement group for the Whipps Cross Hospital site Building a ‘toolkit’ for engaging children and young people in Waltham Forest

Marketplace for patient and public participation Call for exhibitors; Are you from the community and voluntary sector or a health and care provider? Do you have a group or project that involves, or needs to involve, the public in health and care services? Please contact by Friday 2 February to book a free space in the marketplace to promote your work or recruit members.

Timings 14:00 – Marketplace stand holders set up stands 15:30 – Marketplace opens 16:30 – Developing a community involvement group for the Whipps Cross Hospital site 16:45 - Building a ‘toolkit’ for engaging children and young people in Waltham Forest 17:00 – Workshops (How these will run will depend on numbers who wish to attend but they will based on the two topics above and run concurrently so that people can attend both workshops if they wish. 18:00 - Marketplace reopens 19:30 – Event closes
