What is a metaphor? Taking that into consideration, what is an extended metaphor?

4 As you read…. As you read “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, think about how the poem is an extended metaphor. Using our Close Reading strategies, you will need to notice and note as many “signposts” in order to interact with the text (one per stanza minimum), demonstrating your comprehension in the process.

6 Exit Questions: What is the central idea of this poem? (Consider the meaning of the extended metaphor.) Cite textual evidence that supports this concept. Think about a moment in your life when you felt torn between two paths. Describe the situation along with the choice you had to make. Compare your experience to Frost’s in the poem.
