5. Seneca Falls Convention
In 1848, Quakers and Elizabeth Cady Stanton organize a convention in Seneca Falls, New York.
The convention dealt with abolition, women’s rights and women’s suffrage (right to vote).
This was the starting point for the women’s suffrage movement.

6. Susan B. Anthony
She was a staunch abolitionist and proponent of Women’s Suffrage.
In 1872, She was arrested and fined for trying to vote.
She helped with presenting an amendment to congress that would later be accepted.
She would go around the nation giving speeches about women’s right to vote.
She would never vote legally.

7. Elizabeth Cady Stanton
She was an abolitionist and later a women’s rights activist.
She helped organize the Seneca Falls convention which led to the start of the women’s suffrage movement.
She helped unite smaller women’s rights groups into the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA).

9. 19th Amendment The amendment was ratified on August 18, 1920.
It states that the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Women would gain the right to vote 70 years after the start of the women’s suffrage movement.

11. Flappers
The changing view on job and education opportunities changed how women viewed themselves. This allowed for women to become more independent.
Young women in cities started to reject the standard societal view of women. They now started to wear short dresses that did not restrict their movement, and “boyish” short hair. They openly drank and smoked along side men.
