Learning Intentions Describe the sequence of events in the ovarian cycle, with reference to the follicular phase, ovulation, and luteal phase. Describe the sequence of events in the uterine cycle, with reference to menstruation, the proliferative phase, and the secretory phase Describe the control of the ovarian and uterine cycles by hormones including gonadotropin-release hormone (GnRH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrogen, and progesterone.

V.O.D Overview of Ovarian Cycle and Uterine Cycle

Ovarian Cycle

Ovarian Cycle And Uterine Cycle
Decrease progesterone levels – inhibition of GnRH lifted – increase in GnRH – increase in FSH and LH to recruit the next follicle. One follicle grows rapidly and produces estrogen. Mild levels strong and GnRH cancel each other out. High estrogen levels cause spike in LH and FSH because of high affinity receptors – see spike in LH and FSH – signed from GnRh. LH – responsible for ovulation and change to corpus luteum Follicle change – decrease in estrogen Corpus Leutum – increase protesterone – increase the lining of functional zone

How does birth control work?
