1 Starting a Search: A How-to for Department Managers
Employee X has resigned and Manager Y has an opportunity to hire someone new. Now what?

2 Position Requisition Form

3 Manager Y should provide:
Job Description Name of employee being replaced (if applicable) Their last date of work New job description if a reclassification will be sought

4 APPROVALS FROM The following approval signatures are needed on the position requisition form: Vice-President (or Dean) Budget Office

5 APPROVALS HR/Recruiter will assist Manager Y with Employee I-D # (Empl I-D)--required in order to access CUNYfirst. --- Manager Y will need to access CUNYfirst to approve the position when it hits the Approvals chain on its way for final approval by the University.

8 Post-job approval HR Recruiter Group, based on the recruitment plan, will include the newly approved posting in the next available CUNY consolidated ad (Chronicle of Higher Ed. & NY Times). Other required ads will be prepared by Recruiter Group and shared with the hiring director or chair. Approved posting language will be forwarded to the ad agency who will prepare the actual ad. When approved, the ad agency will place the ad in the next available issue/website of the desired publication.
