Temperature Kay, Tali, Neal, and Andrew everyone

2 Question What is the effect of water on the distance
of the temperature of water on the distance the cap travels? Kaya

3 Hypothesis We think when the water in the canister is hot the cap will go farther because the hot water will boil the alka seltzer tablet, and make the cap go farther. We think that if we use cold water it will freeze the alka seltzer tablet a little and will make the cap go slower and will not go far. Andrew

4 Controlled Variables Weight of cap 1 Alka-Seltzer Tablet
Launcher at 450 Angle Neal 20 ml of Water The speed of the wind The placement of the launcher

5 Manipulated Variable The temperature of the water is the manipulated variable. Tali

6 Responding Variable The distance the cap travels is the responding variable. Kaya

7 Kettle Water Ice Launcher Film Canister Cap Alka Seltzer Tablets Cup
Tape and Pen Water Launcher Film Canister Alka Seltzer Tablets Andrew

8 Procedure PLEASE BE WARNED :
Ask the teacher to get you a cup of water at F (Room Temperature) Then, get the syringe. Fill the syringe up to the 20ml mark. Squirt the 20 ml of water into the film canister. Put alka-seltzer tablet into the film canister. Quickly snap on the cap on film canister. Quickly put the canister into the launcher. Make sure two partners are standing on the other side. Once the launcher fires, let the two partners quickly mark the place with tape Partner one marks where it landed not where it jumps then lands Partner two writes the numbered trial and the temperature we were using Repeat procedures for the 100 degrees trial three times. Go and ask teacher to heat the kettle to 2000 and bring it over Have teacher fill syringe to 20 ml Teacher will squirt hot water into the film canister Student will quickly place alka-seltzer tablet into the film canister Teacher will quickly snap cap on the film cani PLEASE BE WARNED : THE EXTREMELY HOT WATER WILL EXPLODE QUICKLY, AND IS VERY HOT. LET ADULTS HANDLE IT! Tali

9 Procedure Continued... 18. Partner one will go over to the place where cap landed and will mark where it landed, do not ark the place it jumped to. 19.Partner two will write the numbered trial and the temperature we were using 20. Repeat the procedures three times 21. Two partners will measure one partner will stay where the tape is which is where the place the cap landed to let the people know where to go 22. Write down measurements. 23. You are finished with this experiment! Great job! Neal

12 Conclusion The cold water did not make the canister explode quickly but made the cap go farther, and the hot water made the cap explode faster but did not shoot as far as the cold water. Kaya

13 Other Questions We spilled water during the times when we were putting the water inside the film canister in the experiment, so what would happen if we did the experiment again and did the exact measurements without spilling? Why did the cap go farther when the water was colder? How could we measure more exact? If we were to launch even colder water, what would happen? How could we control more variables? What made the cap explode faster when we used extremely hot water? Andrew

14 Our Sources We made the graph using Kid's Zone
We used google drive to make this slide Neal
