2 Reminders Check grad list for correct spelling of your name or omission of name Are you enrolled in correspondence? You must mail your final transcripts to the school you will be attending (grad folder) If you accept a scholarship and would like us to announce it at graduation please notify us at Student Services – see Morgan

3 Reminders If you do receive an award don’t forget to send a thank-you to the scholarship sponsor After you have attended college/university for a semester check for scholarships at your school Studying outside of NS? – You need to contact MSI for continuing health insurance. 4 After Grade 12 – Work? Social Insurance #

5 After Grade 12 – Gap Year? Travel (passport, travel/work visa, financing) Volunteering (do the research) Au Pair Academic upgrading – NSCC, University, Correspondence, Night School, Part-time study

6 After Grade 12 – College? Diplomas or Certificates – one or two year programs Generally have COOP placements or internships NSCC, NBCC, Ontario Colleges (OCAS), numerous colleges across Canada

7 After Grade 12 – University?
4 year Undergraduate (Bachelor) Degree (BA, BSc, BComm, BEng, etc) Majors, minors, concentration COOP Minimum acceptance average vs application average (check) Can transfer some credits and switch degrees Scholarship decisions and entrance to limited programs will be based on grade 11 marks (predictors) and first semester marks this year

Many institutions visit our school for presentations; most during the lunch hour. All institutions offer campus visits/tours. It is highly recommended that students visit before making their final decision on a school. Open houses, campus tours, test drives

16 Admission Deadlines Always check individual schools and programs

17 How Do I Finance my Education?
Register with on-line scholarship/awards search sites. Check with parents’ employment /union, students’ employers and community organizations if you are involved (i.e. Boys and Girls Club,Church, cadets, scouts, guides….). Listen for announcements and check the CEC website Scholarship, bursary and award opportunities are available in Student Services Visit from NS Student Assistance April 11, 2016 at 9am in AV Room

18 Entrance Awards Check univeristy or college website for named entrance awards (and deadline dates!). Some require a separate application.

19 CEC School-Based Awards/Prizes
Most are sponsored by community groups such as the Freemasons, Lion’s Club, political parties, etc. Different criteria: financial need, disability, post-secondary program or institution, where you live, political ridings, extra-curricular involvement. CEC Scholarships
