6 Customary Units of Measurement
In the United States, we use customary units of measurement, while most other countries use metric units. The customary units of measurement are: Inch Foot Yard Mile

7 Choosing Measurement Units
You choose your unit of measurement based on the size of the item or space you are measuring. Small objects are likely measured with inches. Medium sized objects (desks, rooms, people) are measured in feet. Larger things are measured in yards, like football fields. Miles are used to measure driving distances between cities or states.
