Where? Education includes: HIV/STI Prevention Pregnancy Prevention Contraceptives Healthy Relationships Healthy Communication “How to talk to your teens about sex” parents class Tulsa and surrounding communities In FY17, HEP provided group education to 8900 youth and 363 adults/parents for a total of 9263 people

5 Individual Education

6 In FY17, HEP provided Individual Education to 694 youth
Referrals come from: Other YST programs School staff Social Workers Parents Court/Probation Community Organizations HEP educates young people individually regarding their sexual health by offering risk-assessments utilizing motivational interviewing to help youth gage their own risk status In FY17, HEP provided Individual Education to 694 youth

7 Accessing Clinics

8 In FY17, HEP facilitated 521 individual appointments in Tulsa county
Clinic Access Access includes: Scheduling and transportation Assistance with paperwork Advocating for the youth Support Educating pre/post appointment HEP assists youth aged in scheduling and accessing clinics for their sexual health care In FY17, HEP facilitated 521 individual appointments in Tulsa county

9 There are many barriers for youth accessing clinics
Some barriers may include: Lack of support (family/friends) Transportation No knowledge on where to go Their schedule Clinic hours Fear or anxiety Paperwork involved Days/weeks until appointment Waiting room time (short attention spans) Unknown outcome of the appointment Why? There are many barriers for youth accessing clinics HEP’s goal is for each youth to become well educated about their own sexual health and for them to achieve self sufficiency in navigating the healthcare system

10 Expectant & Parenting Teen Services

11 In the fall of 2015, HEP began PET services.
When? Services include: Scheduling & transportation to appointments Prenatal, WIC, postpartum appts Continued communication with medical staff Advocate for mother and/or father In the fall of 2015, HEP began PET services. In FY17, HEP offered assistance to 21 expectant and parenting teens under the age of 25, totaling 103 appointments.

12 Other duties of HEP Provide referrals to other programs and agencies when needed Ongoing collaboration with Tulsa area Title X clinics to increase accessibility and teen friendliness Involvement in community planning Networking with schools, community agencies and organizations
