1 Public Meeting Rezoning
January 10th East View High School

2 Vision Home of the most inspired students served by the most empowered leaders

3 Mission Inspiring and empowering every learner to lead to grow and serve.

4 District Beliefs We believe public education is the foundation of our community. Our actions should be student-centered. It is our responsibility to prepare students for their future. Developing leaders is vital to our success. Instruction should be designed based on the needs of the learners. Community engagement enhances educational experiences.

5 Past Student Growth GISD has experienced an increase of 1,074 students over the past five years. : 10,370 students : 11,444 students

6 Future Student Growth GISD is projected to experience an increase of 2,971 students in the next five years. : 11,444 students : 14,415 students

8 Rezoning Goals Create attendance zones that utilize the student capacity of existing and new facilities. Create vertical feeder patterns for all campuses across the district. Minimize the impact on students and families.

9 Red Lines represent old boundaries
Cooper/Mitchell divided by the HS zones Purl gained an are from Carver, and lost an area to Mitchell Pickett is all West of I-35

10 Yellow represents the point in which we begin to exceed capacity
19-20 we begin to feel some stress

11 These number represent what would happen if we applied the draft attendance zones for this years population Current ED Populations Carver 62% Cooper 56% Ford 16.7% Frost 59% McCoy 20.4% Mitchell 67% Pickett 51.5% Purl 76.8 % Village 43.4% Williams 80%

12 All McCoy students will attend Forbes
All Village Students will attend Benold Purl and a small portion of Carver (inside the inner loop) will feed Tippit Mitchell EL and most of Carver EL will feed Wagner

13 The draft plan will take care of MS capacity until 23/24 school year

14 Current ED% Benold 25% Forbes 44.1% Tippit 59.1 % District 44.1%

15 Highlights True high school feeder patterns
The middle schools feeding Georgetown HS are similar in size The middle schools feeding East View HS are similar in size All elementary student cohorts will remain together except for a small portion of Carver EL Village, McCoy, Cooper, and Purl/Williams were sending students to two middle schools

16 Significant Changes All Village EL students will attend Benold MS
All McCoy EL students will attend Forbes MS Mitchell EL and most of Carver EL will feed Wagner MS Future population trends indicate we will need to rezone on a 3-4 year basis

17 Transfers for 4th graders will have the option to complete 5th grade at their current campus. Due to capacity limitations siblings must attend the campus in their attendance zone. Current 6th & 7th graders will have the option to continue through 8th grade at their current campus. We will have an application window for students wishing to stay put. Younger siblings will be allowed to be grandfathered to the older siblings’ middle school up until the eldest sibling completes 8th grade. Once the eldest sibling completes 8th grade, the grandfathering clause will cease and the younger siblings will need to attend the middle school in which they are zoned. GISD will not provide transportation to students who opt to stay put.
