3. Parent Handbook -Reading
Your child will be bringing books home to read every night ~ these books are to be practiced for the week.
Reading Strategies – “Stuck On A Word?” ie: Eagle Eye
Word Work- ie: look for sight words, retell, relate to self
Read aloud together with your child using various texts (magazines, newspapers, internet), take turns to model fluency, ask questions about the text, create discussions, have them retell what they read, discuss reading strategies

4. Writing
Writing exemplars and expectations for the end of each grade level are included in the parent handbook
We write using first hand experiences
Word wall and sight word lists are included to help with spelling
Encourage your child to sound out unknown words
Praise them for taking risks-sounding
out unknown words

5. Behavior Plan
1-2-3 Magic
1.   Warning to stop talking/disruptive behavior and make good choices
2.   Second warning
3.   Remove from situation (call or note home to parents, if necessary) 
An automatic 3 is given if a student uses physical force. An office referral may be given if this happens more than once and contact home will be made in this case.
