1 WW1 War Tactics By Kylee Holms

2 Land Alliance: Schlieffen plan – quickly attacking France before Russia can mobilise it’s troops Entente: Offensive attacks New technology included machine guns, artillery attacks, poison gas, and tanks War of attrition was used, which involves trenches, one side attacking the other until they couldn’t continue Caused psychological disorders and nervous breakdowns

3 Water Alliance: U-boats
Entente: convey system – groups of boats with defensive ships and planes to protect Entente’s developed underwater listening device to locate and destroy U-boats U-boats would sink any ship in Britain’s war zone, which lead to America entering WW1 It was dangerous work, there was a decent chance you wouldn’t make it back to land

4 Air Both sides used the same aviation techniques
New technology included airplanes Airplanes flew over battlefields to find the enemy, drop bombs/grenades, and use guns to shoot enemies It was very dangerous to be a pilot, many were killed due to mechanical failures

5 Canadian Contribution
Battle of Vimy Ridge: Canadians successfully attacked the German-held strongpoint, the victory united Canadians The Hundred Days: Canadians played a key role in driving back the Germans and defeating them during this time Over 60,000 Canadian casualties

6 Discussion Why do you think German’s Schlieffen plan didn’t help them later on? Should they have used a different strategy? If Canada had a choice and wasn’t just a colony, do you think we should’ve agreed to fight for Britain and the Entente? Why or why not?
