2 Warm-up: How did the Missouri Compromise help lead to expanding slavery?   How did the Compromise of 1850 make it easier for southern states to recover fugitive slaves? How did the Kansas-Nebraska Act affect the expansion of slavery? What caused Texas to secede from the Union?  What were the consequences of this action?  (There were a total of eleven states to secede from the Union.)

Draw a line to between the Union states and the Confederate States of America (CSA). Label each state and territory in the U.S.A. Next label each state in the Confederate States of America (CSA). *** Use a coloring scheme Label key elements of the Missouri (MO) Compromise: MO (slave) & ME (free) -> 12/12 36 X 30 line above AR territory North = Free (except MO) South = Slave Label key elements of the Compromise of 1850: CA = Free Other territories could decide if they wanted to be a slave or free state by popular sovereignty. Slave trade outlawed in D.C. Texas’ shape changed. Label key elements of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, 1854: Popular sovereignty was used to determine if the territories of NE & KS would be free or slave. Clash between pro-slavery and anti-slavery forces.
