8 Friday 4/13/18 Warm Up: What 3 body systems have we learned about so far? Warm Up Quiz!! Video

9 What is the main function of the respiratory system?
To protect your body from invading pathogens and bacteria. To pump blood throughout your brain and body. To take in oxygen from the environment and get rid of waste like carbon dioxide through the process of breathing. None of these are correct.

To protect your body from invading pathogens and bacteria. To pump blood throughout your brain and body. To take in oxygen from the environment and get rid of waste like carbon dioxide through the process of breathing. None of these are correct.

12 4. Which of these is NOT part of the circulatory system?
Heart Capillaries, veins and arteries Blood Kidneys

13 5. Which organ pumps blood from the lungs to the entire body and back again?
Blood Marrow in your femur. The heart T-cells The lungs

14 6. Which of these is NOT a type of blood vessel?
Alveoli Veins Arteries Capillaries

15 7. What happens in the alveoli?
Voice is produced A sneeze is produced Gas exchange: oxygen enters the blood and carbon dioxide exits Food is digested

16 8. What muscle controls air flow in the lungs
Quadriceps Diaphragm Heart My 6 pack abs

17 9. What does #7 represent? Nose Pharynx Larynx Bronchus

18 10. What are the upper chambers of the heart called?
Atrium Ventricle Aorta Vein

19 11. What are the lower chambers of the heart called?
Atrium Ventricle Aorta Vein

20 12. A flap of tissue that prevents blood from flowing backwards is a(n) _____________. (They are like tiny doors in your heart) Epiglottis Vein Septum Valve

24 16. What is the first line of defense against pathogens in the body?
Inflammation Barriers (Skin, Breathing passages, Mouth and stomach) Immune response Defense? There isn’t one. Germs always lead to sickness

25 17. What type of cells recognize a pathogen and distinguish one kind of pathogen from another?
B Cells T Cells Immune cells Antibodies

26 18. Which artery is the only one that carries oxygen poor blood?
Artery to lower body Vein to upper body Pulmonary Artery Aorta

27 19. How many chambers does your heart have?
2 4 6

28 20. What is a pathogen? A cell that identifies bacteria/viruses to fight off An microorganism that fights disease An microorganism that causes diseases The path that blood flows through the body

Smoking Diet of fatty foods Lack of Exercise All of these

30 22. Why does your heart rate increase and you breathe faster during exercise?
Because hormones in your body are telling your brain that something is wrong. This is called “flight or fight” response. Because your muscles are using more oxygen. The lungs and heart must supply more to meet the demands of your working cells. This is not true. Your heart rate actually decreases during exercise. Because exercise is bad for you. It disrupts the rhythm of the pacemaker.
