Questions and Short Answers Is + there + singular noun…? Is there a bank in town? Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t. Are + there + plural noun…? Are there any banks in town? Yes, there are. / No, there aren’t.

some = plural nouns in affirmative sentences There are some good cafes in town. any = plural nouns in negative sentences and questions There aren’t any movie theaters around here. Are there any shoe stores around here?

A: Are there any convenience stores…? B: No, there aren’t. 4. A: Is there a shopping mall…? B: Yes, there is. It’s five minutes away.

11 Now Practice There are some good stores around here. There aren’t any buses after midnight. There are some beautiful parks in this city. There aren’t any mushrooms on my pizza. There aren’t any beaches near here.

Look at the following pictures. Make two sentences for each picture. Use “There is” or “There are” for each sentence. Don’t forget to include a, an, some, any, much, many, a few, a lot of, lots of, or a number.
