The largest abstract and citation database of peer- reviewed literature A free reference manager and academic social network SciVal is part of Elsevier Research Intelligence, which is a comprehensive and integrated research management portfolio. We bring together the four key elements essential to making evidence-based research decisions: data, technology, metrics and visualizations. Which form a common theme through the products listed here on the screen (point) and that all share access to the same set of core data. SciVal, Pure and Analytical Services are designed to support institutional decision making on research: SciVal, helps you compare yourself to the outside world and gives you a comprehensive overview of the world’s research at the institutional level. It allows you to interact with the information about institutions to conduct benchmarking Pure, helps you get a complete internal picture of your researchers activities. It offers a range of features, from a turnkey expertise profiling and research networking solution to a fully integrated research information system to help you gain a deep view of your own institution, Analytical Services, is there for projects that require customized reports, and for those who want to use Scopus Custom Data in their own databases. Scopus is the data source to our research management solutions. It is used broadly by research managers and researchers who need a comprehensive and efficient place to search, discover and analyze research. Mendeley is a free reference manager and academic social networking tool that vastly improves researcher productivity. But let’s focus on SciVal! Focus on research institutions (universities, funding bodies and government) Informs research strategy Supports research activity

3 SciVal in a nutshell SciVal offers quick, easy access to the research performance of 220 nations and 7,000+ research institutions worldwide. Visualize research performance Benchmark your progress Develop collaborative partnerships Analyze research trends Ready-made-at a glance snapshots of any selected entity Flexibility to create and compare any research groups Identify and analyze existing and potential collaboration opportunities Analyze research trends to discover the top performers and rising stars What is SciVal in a nutshell? SciVal is an integrated modular web platform that allows you to make evidence-based strategic decisions. SciVal enables you to evaluate and benchmark the research performance of any desired group of people or publications. These can be researchers, institutions (we have institutions worldwide), countries, publication sets and research topics of your interest. In SciVal, you can also evaluate existing collaboration partners and identify new collaboration opportunities. Furthermore, you can analyse research trends in SciVal to discover top performers and rising stars.

4 Query around 110 trillion metric values
The layers of SciVal Using advanced data analytics super-computer technology, SciVal allows you to instantly process an enormous amount of data to generate powerful data visualizations on-demand, in seconds. SciVal uses advanced data analytics and super-computer technology, and thanks to that, you can instantly configure and process enormous amounts of data and generate on-demand data visualizations relevant to specific challenges. - SciVal consists of 4 modules: overview, benchmarking, collaboration and trends – they are all underpinned by a common foundation, and are functionally integrated - Underlying data-source is Scopus plus ScienceDirect and Scopus usage data in the Trends module - SciVal is dynamic, as it is updated biweekly with data from Scopus. Usage data from Scopus and ScienceDirect is updated monthly. - You can select the metrics you want to use, to explore the entities of your choice. We ready made entities such as more than 5500 institutions, 223 countries but you can also create their own entities, such as researchers, groups of researchers and research topics of your interest. Query around 110 trillion metric values

5 The largest abstract and citation database of research information with over 55 million records
Updated daily, includes: 21,000+ titles from more than 5,000 international publishers (independent review board) 20,000+ peer-reviewed journals (including 2,800 open access journals) 367 trade publications 421 book series 30,000 books (75,000 by 2015) 5.5 million conference papers "Articles-in-Press" from more than 3,750 journals and publishers Coverage of: Life Sciences Health Sciences Physical Sciences Social Sciences Arts and Humanities Cited Reference expansion of pre-1996 references (back to 1970 by 2016) Independent journal metrics: SNIP: The Source-Normalized Impact per Paper SJR: The SCImago Journal Rank Connectivity with ORCID About Scopus® The underlying data-source of our 4 modules is Scopus. Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of research information with over 55 million records from 5,000 publishers. Scopus is updated with new content on a daily basis, while we update SciVal with Scopus content on a monthly basis, so SciVal could be slightly behind Scopus in terms of content availability. Also, it is important to know that we only consider post 1996 content in SciVal. The coverage of Scopus spans the fields of Science, Medicine, Technology, Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities. The fields covered in Scopus have been organized into 27 main categories and 334 sub-categories. You can use both the main and the sub categories as a filter in SciVal as well as analyze in detail the 334 sub-categories. In addition, Scopus provide unique linked data points between publications, authors and affiliations. Authors and affiliations are already disambiguated allowing great level of aggregation in SciVal.

6 How SciVal adds value to Research Institutions
Demonstrate research strengths to funders Apply a broad basket of metrics to showcase your strengths Assess any grouping of researchers or publications Analyze in which topics you are the most visible Collaborate with the right institutions Assess the strength of existing collaborations Identify potential new collaboration partners Optimize internal resource allocation Create and compare any group of researchers Compare departments using normalized metrics Complement other evaluation options Recruit and retain top talent Compare researchers using any combination of metrics Identify top researchers in any field Analyze impact of additions to existing research teams SciVal adds value to Research institutions through Demonstrating research strengths to funders… Helping you collaborate with the right institutions… Aiding in optimizing internal resource allocation And helping you recruit and retain top talent
