Express actions or activities that can be completed The archaeologist digs. She found a shard of pottery. Express condition The ruins were spectacular. This vase feels smooth.

2 Action Verbs: indicates the action of a person, place, or thing
Visible (what we can see) The building stands on the mountain side. Homer wrote the poem. Nancy reads history books. Mental (cannot be seen or heard) The students understand the assignment. Everyone believes you.

3 The ancient Greeks called themselves Hellenes.
Invading tribes from the north conquered new territories. Kings replaced the tribal chiefs. They would not share any power. Eventually the system changed.
