61 GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment)
Twin satellites launched March 2002 Making detailed measurements of the Earth's gravity field Twin GRACE satellites fly in formation one behind the other. A satellite speeds up when it experiences a stronger gravitational field. This has enabled the detection of shifting ocean currents, desiccation of droughts, draining of lakes, shrinking of ice sheets, and reduction of ground water in Northern Indian.
