2 Geography Is the study of the people, places, and environment.

3 Five Themes of Geography
Location Place Environment Human/ Environment Interaction Region

4 Location Focused on a specific place and consider the question of its position on the earth’s surface. Absolute location: is the position of one place using the latitudes and longitudes. Relative Location: Is the relation that people gave to one place in relation with other know places.

5 PLACE Specific location, on the earth has a set of characteristics that distinguished it form other places. Those characteristics could be physical features as well human features.

6 Movement The transfers of people and goods from one place to another.

7 Human/ Environment Interaction
Explores the interdependence of people and their surroundings.

8 Regions An area that is defined according to one or more characteristics. Those characteristics could be physical features, or they may be based on other types of human concepts such as political divisions, kinds of language, or types of industry.

9 The 5 Themes in the United States

10 Location United States is located in the Northern Hemisphere west of the Prime Meridian. US includes 48 territories that are contiguous, and other two states. US has other territories such as Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and Guam.

11 Places United States is richness and variety because they different cultural heritages .

12 Movement First Migration from Asia. Second Migration from Europe. Third Migration has been continued until today.

13 Human/Environmental Interaction
Earliest Americans adapt to the variety of they discovered on the new continent. What happen in the present?

14 Regions Water System Landforms Climate Regions
A common way of referring to regions in the United States is grouping them into 5 regions according to their geographic position on the continent: the Northeast, Southwest, West, Southeast, and Midwest.
