2 Welcome We are honored to have you as part of the Washington Irving School family. We believe that communication is key to your child’s success. Tonight’s Back To School night will provide you with important information about our school. We hope you find this evening’s event informative and enjoyable.

3 Who we are: We are a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School. Our goal is to help each child achieve academic success, have a positive self-image, and to have respect for others. WI prides itself on its diversity, teamwork and family oriented atmosphere. All children have access to a rigorous, challenging and engaging learning program.

8 Attendance Attendance and promptness are fundamental to your child’s learning and overall success. Daily school attendance provides your child with an optimal opportunity for learning and helps to develop his/her sense of responsibility and follow through that will be valuable throughout his/her life. The school day begins at 7:30 am. Arriving promptly at school ensures that no instruction is missed, his/her routines are maintained, and good work habits are promoted.     

9 Arrival Procedures Buses and vans unload in the front of the building and the rear of the building. Car riders should be dropped off in the front of the building. Please do not park in the bus lane from 7:00 – 7:45 a.m. The school doors open at 7:15 a.m. The first bell rings at 7:30 a.m. Students not in class by 7:40 a.m. are marked tardy. Please use the designated crosswalks when crossing Route 9. Side Parking Lot has 3 Handicapped spaces and 2 Visitors spots. Parking along the upper fence is not permitted.

10 Dismissal Procedures Buses and Vans load in the front of the building and the rear of the building. Please do not park in the bus lane from 1:45 – 2:20 p.m. Changes in dismissal plans should be in writing and given to your child’s teacher in the morning. Calls to the office to change dismissal plans should be made prior 1:30 p.m. Please do not send s regarding dismissal to teachers. Please use the designated crosswalks when crossing Route 9. Parking in the side lot is limited and the turn around area is narrow. We prefer that you do not use the lot for pick-ups.

Report Cards Move to Trimester Reporting Provides more time between reporting periods for students to demonstrate learning More flexibility to pace curriculum and ensure student mastery of instruction Divides instructional days more evenly throughout the reporting periods.
