3. What is the Amarillo College Diplomas & Degrees Program?

Amarillo College agrees to enter into a partnership with a CanyonHigh School to offer qualified students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and an Associate of Science degree in General Studies with an Arts & Humanities/STEM emphasis at the same time by successfully completing courses for dual credit and concurrent enrollment at Amarillo College.
The Diplomas & Degrees Program will allow a participating high school student graduate to directly enter a Texas state supported university as a college junior.

5. What are the benefits?

6. Dual Credit Courses: $50/credit hour
Students will maximize their high school years by selecting courses which will count as dual credit for high school graduation requirements and Amarillo College graduation requirements simultaneously. Students will also pick-up as many major requirement courses as possible while enrolled at Amarillo College.
Parents will realize savings by paying lower college tuition at Amarillo College.
Dual Credit Courses: $50/credit hour
Online AC Course: $ per course
Our top 4 transfer institutions: $ per course.
Parents will realize additional savings by not incurring charges for two years of college room and board.
This can be a savings of $10,000’s
Students will have the benefit of college and career pathways advising by an academic advisor from Amarillo College.
Students will qualify to participate in all college activities and organizations, and will have full use of campus facilities such as the Carter Fitness Center, Lynn Library and computer labs.

8. Who Should Consider Participating in the Amarillo College Diplomas & Degrees Program?

9. The AC Diplomas & Degrees Program is a rigorous program that will requires extra time and a dedicated commitment to academic study. It is not for every student.
Amarillo College has had 22 successful Diplomas & Degrees Program graduates.

Make above average grades.
Possess good technology skills.
Be highly motivated.
Be able to manage time wisely, and
possess above average study habits.
Be able to stick to a goal.
Student must want it more than the
parent(s).
Not be afraid to seek help before it’s too late.
Ask for help!

11. When Should Students Apply for the AC Diplomas & Degrees Program & How?

12. Students should apply when finishing their 8th grade year.
Students applying for the program will be required to take the Texas state TSI Assessment test, and demonstrate college-readiness in reading and writing. The students will take TSI Math before they begin MATH 1414 DC.
Students, parents, and school officials will complete the official AC Diplomas & Degrees Student Contract.
