1 Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA)
All Soldiers (Active, Guard and Reserves) apply for Federal tuition assistance by logging onto FTA must be approved before the start date of the class. Applications may be submitted 60 days prior to the start of class. FTA Requests submitted less than 5 business days prior to course start date may not get approved by the class start date and will not be considered for an exception to policy If Soldiers are flagged (not in good standing) they are not eligible for Federal TA

2 Federal Tuition Assistance
Federal tuition assistance pays up to 100% of tuition costs for up to 16 credit hours, a maximum of $250 per semester credit hour, and $4000 per fiscal year (1 Oct – 30 Sep) Federal tuition assistance only pays for tuition, no fees Federal tuition assistance may be combined with other benefits such as GI Bill except chapter 1606 Officers have a 4 year service obligation for MDAY, 2 Year for AGR, Enlisted Soldiers do not have any obligation

3 Federal Tuition Assistance
Federal tuition assistance can be used for degrees of Associates through Masters and a certificate Pays up to 130 semester hours towards a Bachelors, 39 semester hours toward a Masters Degree, and 21 hours for a certificate Must maintain 2.0 GPA for undergraduate degree and a 3.0 GPA for graduate degree

4 Federal Tuition Assistance
Transition Certificates are for Soldiers who believe they will ETS (leaving the military) within three years, but want to get a certificate 21 credit hours to earn one “Transition Certificate” if they have not previously obtained a certificate in the past five years Enlisted Soldiers must be within three years of their ETS and Officers must be able to fulfill their mandatory service duty obligation upon completion of the course of study

5 Missouri State Tuition Assistance
State TA will pay 100% up to $282 per credit hour at the Univ. of MO. – Columbia tuition rates State TA will assist with tuition cost up to a total of 39 undergraduate credit hours a year (15 – Spring, 9 – Summer and 15 – Fall) Up to 150 credit hours or first Bachelor’s Degree State TA Program only pays for tuition, no fees

6 Missouri State TA Eligibility
Soldier must maintain a 2.5 Cumulative GPA – on a 4.0 Scale Must be approved before start date of class All Soldiers MUST apply for Federal TA through GO ARMY ED before being eligible to be Awarded State TA

7 Missouri State TA Eligibility
All info for State TA is on the MOGUARD website, under Programs, then under Education and Incentives Apply early, do not wait until the last minute, COMPLETE applications and all required documents are due before the start date of class **Cannot be flagged – Must be in “good standing”

8 Show Me Heroes’ Education Act
Per RSMo Section , effective August 28, 2016 Applies to Combat Veterans who have served in armed combat in the military after September 11, 2001 The Combat Veteran must have been a Missouri Resident when first entering the military, discharged from ACTIVE DUTY under honorable conditions, and have deployed to a combat zone All PUBLIC institutions of higher education that receive any state funds shall limit the amount of tuition cost to $50 per credit hour as long as the Soldier maintains a 2.5 GPA

Can be used for a Certificate, Associate or Bachelors degree Eligibility will expire 10 years after discharge “The tuition limitation under this section shall be provided before all other federal and state aid for which the veteran is eligible has been applied.” - Per RSMo Section , effective August 28, 2016 Combat Veterans will be charged $50 per credit hour before Federal Tuition Assistance, State Tuition Assistance, Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill, and etc. is applied.
