3 What is a LMS? LMS is the acronym for Learning Management System. A Learning Management System is computer software that helps manage online education content and generate online activities for courses. Examples of popular LMS’ include: Blackboard, Canvas, Desire2Learn (D2L Brightspace), Edmodo and of course Moodle.

4 How does CCHS use the LMS?
Moodle is the Learning Management System we use at Carolinas College of Health Sciences. We refer to it as our CCHS Information Portal and can found at online.carolinascollege.edu We use Moodle for the Carolinas College of Health Sciences Information Portal. Link: online.carolinascollege.edu

5 What is a LMS? Tip!! Login to the CCHS Information Portal using the browser, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Puffin…..but Chrome is the Best! CHROME!!!

6 How does CCHS use the LMS?
The CCHS Information Portal contains several Moodle pages, developed for a variety of reasons: Faculty Development Student Orientation Information Pages Evaluations Courses

7 What is on the CCHS Information Portal?
The CCHS Information Portal contains: A login to the course pages A Dashboard to find your profile and course list quickly! CCHS Links and Quicklinks to useful resources like the Technology & Learning page Help to guide you to creating a technology Support Help ticket The CCHS Information Portal contains many more quick links to helpful information for students, staff and faculty. Be sure to navigate them all!

Action Plan Login to Moodle online.carolinascollege.edu Locate and click “Dashboard” Add and Save a photo to your profile Return to the CCHS Information Portal Home Click on CCHS Links>Technology Resources>Technology & Learning Center Locate and Print the Flowchart for your reference Complete the Action Plan

9 How do I create a Moodle Course or Information Page at CCHS?
If you are proposing a new course at CCHS, follow the instructions on this PDF link: Skip this slide if you are working from a pre-existing course. Otherwise, visit this link

10 How do I create a Moodle Course or Information Page at CCHS?
If you would like to “play” in a “Sandbox Course”, follow the instructions on this PDF link Skip this slide if you do not plan on “playing” in a personal sandbox course Otherwise, visit this link

11 How do I enroll in an existing Moodle Course or Information Page at CCHS?
If you are facilitating a CCHS course or information page that has already been created, ensure you are enrolled as a “Teacher” or “non-editing Teacher”. If you are not enrolled, your Director will request the enrollment from a member of the CCHS Tech team.

12 I am enrolled in a Moodle Course or Information Page. Now What?
Establish Page Settings Important Page Settings include: General Settings Description Format Appearance …Of these the most important to understand is Format. Click Establish Course Settings in the Powerpoint to view details.

13 I am enrolled in a Moodle Course or Information Page. Now What?
Format is the skeletal structure of the page. Your information and course content will fill in around its organization Format Options include: Weekly Sections Topical Sections Collapsed Sections …and more. Storyboard or create an outline of how your course will be organized. Click Format Options in the Powerpoint to view more details.

14 I am enrolled in a Moodle Course or Information Page. Now What?
Action Plan Login to Moodle online.carolinascollege.edu Locate and click the title of your course via “Dashboard” or “My Courses” Go to Administration>Edit Settings Complete the structure of your course. Complete the Action Plan

15 I am enrolled in a Moodle Course or Information Page. Now What?
Another part of designing the structure of your page includes Moodle Blocks. Blocks contain short-cuts to activities and files. At CCHS, blocks should ALWAYS be left-justified for consistency across the college. Click Moodle Blocks in the Powerpoint to view more details.

Action Plan Locate and click “Turn Editing On” Locate and click the pull-down menu of “Add a Block” to add a Calendar block, Resources block, personalized block,… Complete the Action Plan

Dock a Block By docking a block, you can have easier access to your Administrative block while editing your page or dock it if you choose to simplify the look of your page. Tip: Students also have access to dock a block. Docking navigation:

Action Plan! DOCK: On your page, locate and click the left pointing arrow symbol in the Administration Block UNDOCK: Click the docked block in order to open it. Locate and click the right pointing arrow symbol in the Complete the Action Plan

20 I created my Moodle Page Structure. Now What?
Add and Manage Content Using the Moodle Activity Chooser, you can add resources and activities. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the Moodle text editor and these common course editing icons! Moodle Icons:

Action Plan! Activities and resources have settings that are both common and unique. Click “+Add an activity or resource” in your course. Under Resources, check out “File”, “Page” & “Folder”. What settings do they have in common? What settings are unique to each? Complete the Action Plan
