Working adults not taking classes at the college Children Senior citizens Some of the people in the community who are potential users include working adults who are not taking classes at the college, senior citizens, and children.

12 Reasons for discrepancy?
Many may not know about the features at their community college library that are available to them Many people in the community who are not college students or faculty do not visit the college library because they do not know they can and also they do not know what services and features are available for them to use there.

13 Some barriers Must be a student, faculty member, employee, or someone with a public library card Children’s section is very small Generation gap Parents of small kids think may be too loud In order check out books and materials and use the computer lab you must have a student ID or have a public library card from the community. Anyone living in Marion, Polk, or Yamhill County is eligible for a Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service (CCRLS) card.  To apply you will need a picture I.D. with current address on it and must go to your local public library to get the library card. The children’s section of the Chemeketa Community College Library is very small and is more catered towards college students studying children’s literature. Some adults I talked to in the area said they did not take their kids to the community college library because they didn’t know they had kids books or areas for kids and feared they would interrupt studying students. Other adults did not know that they could use their public library card to check out materials at the college and use the computers. Some senior citizens think it is only a bunch of teenagers at the library from college and they will feel out of place,

14 Ideas for bridging the gap
Marketing Children’s programs and spaces Make it easier to get a college library card Offer senior book clubs and oral story telling Host community events Some ideas to get more people from the community to come to the college library include marketing features and programs available to the public, providing more space in the library devoted to families and children’s reading and materials, offering senior book clubs or story telling opportunities, making it easier for the public to use the library and get a card, and hosting community events at the library.
