7 A simpler way to deploy and manage classroom devices
MICROSOFT INTUNE FOR EDUCATION Fast enrollment and streamlined deployment easily brings Windows 10 devices and apps under management Zero-touch management to change apps and settings applied by default to each enrolled device through the cloud and Azure AD Import school, student and teacher info quickly with School Data Sync to automatically create classes and keep student data up-to-date Designed for education to address common school scenarios and settings, such as shared devices where user gets different settings and apps Scales to your environment with delegated administration from a district to a school level and bridging the gap between on-premise ConfigMgr deployments to modern cloud Intune management with co-management. Includes rights to the full enterprise-grade Intune console for cross-platform management. Key message: The improved Intune for Education is a cloud-based service that delivers easy setup and control of Windows 10 apps and devices in the classroom. Intune for Education is at the core of a modern platform to create the conditions for learning in the classroom. Microsoft’s cloud technologies can be deployed alongside or integrate easily with your existing infrastructure. The top feedback we have heard since launch a year ago has been better support for troubleshooting with Windows 10 devices managed by Intune for Education and scaling deployment for different sizes of districts. Lets start with the one area where we have got consistent feedback from our customers and partners – how about an easier way to set up and manage devices?  In response, we created Intune for Education – taking a rock-solid product built on top of our commercial Intune offering and making it easier, customized for Education customers Easy deployment: With the new Windows 10, it is easier than ever to set up a new PC, including very light-touch device configuration using a USB key Simple enrollment: Bring devices under management simply by AAD joining, either through the Setup School PCs app & USB stick or Out Of Box Experience Zero-touch management: Microsoft for Education and approved third-party apps, with appropriate settings applied to each enrolled device by default. With the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, IT admins can now configure new settings like set WiFi  profiles, enable Windows Automatic Redeployment and Power Settings via Intune for Education. We heard a lot of feedback from customers about the need for more IT visibility and insights to inform device deployment & troubleshooting with Intune for Education. Given this, we have added a couple key features to help with this: Search : Allows an admin to search for specific user/device and view user/device details page. User & device details pages: Once you’ve found the user/device you can see which settings and apps should be applied and their deployment status for a user/device. Also, as part of troubleshooting, administrators want to be able to see the “paper trail” of changes that were made, possibly by other admins, so they can act to fix any deployment issues, especially those pertaining to Windows security. Audit Log for apps/settings changes on a group: Allows an admin to see which changes were made, by whom and when. Windows Defender status reporting: Customers told us they liked Windows Defender protection but now you can  see more detailed status on devices under Intune for Education management. We now include information on vulnerabilities detected and scan status, Shared devices: Managed devices can be shared. Each user can get different settings/apps if required. Designed for Education: Smart defaults for schools and the ability to target granular policies by device or user groups after syncing SIS data via School Data Sync Scales to your environment with delegated administration from a district to a school level and bridging the gap between on-premise ConfigMgr deployments to modern cloud Intune management with co-management. Includes rights to the full enterprise-grade Intune console for cross-platform management. IT admins at a district or system level often want to delegate administrator permissions and management visibility to school level administrators who just want to manage their school of devices. It can be complex for less technical administrators to assign these role-specific permissions to school level staff in the full Intune console, especially with large, decentralized IT staffs. With upcoming updates, IT admins can more easily delegate administration via Intune for Education with a new “School Administrator ” role.   Intune for Education Resource collection (Customer-Ready): Website and Free Trial: 90-Day free trial: Intune for Education console: State of Modern Deployment White Paper: Intune for Education "teaser“:  Intune for EDU and EMS EDU Infographic #1 (high level value prop with MSFT EDU): Intune for EDU and EMS EDU (deeper technical):        Intune for EDU Technical datasheet: Intune for EDU Deployment Training videos:

10 Meet Microsoft Teams for Education
THE HUB FOR TEAMWORK IN OFFICE 365 EDUCATION Create collaborative classrooms that save teachers time and better engage students in modern learning Connect educators in professional learning communities to improve teaching skills with built-in PLC Notebooks Streamline staff communication on school-wide initiatives using custom Staff Notebooks Come together in a team for any team or project, like student groups or planning events Key message:  We’ve heard from educators throughout our journey with Microsoft Classroom Preview that some of their biggest pain points are just managing efficient class workflows. With Teams, we’re bringing forward all the features you knew and loved from Classroom Preview like assignments management and OneNote Class Notebook into one digital hub, so you can save time on the everyday logistics and focus on educating. But with Teams, we saw an opportunity to create a space that does more than just simplify class workflows. With Teams, we saw an opportunity to create a space that engages the voice within every student. One that helps them build communication and collaboration skills they’ll need to be successful in the future by using the rich text, video, voice, and sometimes fun inputs they already know and love. And with Teams, you have something that’s going to grow with the students as they do – on their journey from lower to middle to high school, on to college, and after they graduate and enter the workforce.  And of course, the classroom isn’t the only place in the school that needs a new way of communicating and collaborating. With Teams, you have one digital hub for the entire school. Microsoft Teams is a hub for teamwork in Office 365 Education, and we recently introduced new classroom experience with Teams.   In Q3 CY2017, education customers will be able to work together in three new types of teams built for the way teachers, students, and staff collaborate– Class, PLC, and Staff.  (Class) Microsoft Teams gives teachers a single digital hub to manage a more connected and collaborative classroom experience for their students. School Data Sync saves teachers time by automatically creating Classes and keeping student rosters up to date. Class Notebooks are built into every Class, allowing teachers to easily organize their lesson plans and provide personalized learning support for each student. Teachers can also quickly create, review, and grade Assignments all without leaving Teams. Class integrations with Office 365 and apps like Flipgrid, Busuu, and Kahoot! mean students can create and collaborate anytime, anywhere. And with persistent conversations, teachers and students can organically share feedback to create a more supportive and engaging learning environment.  (PLC) Teachers can connect regularly with their peers and continue their own development through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in Teams. PLCs automatically come with PLC Notebooks so teachers can share best practices and collaborate on lesson plans to improve the academic performance of their students. With persistent conversations, teachers have a collective history of their discussion and content to keep everyone up-to-date even as new teachers join the team. In addition to having easy access to Office 365 apps they use every day, teachers can customize their PLC to keep the resources they need right at their fingertips.  (Staff) Staff teams allow school administrators and teachers to share information and work together school-wide initiatives. With Staff Notebooks built in, staff can publish school policies for the whole team to access or create individual professional development plans. With persistent conversations and integration with Office 365 apps, staff can leverage the same powerful tools and connected learning experiences they create for their students for their own collaboration.   And of course, education customers can always create a team to work together on any project-based or team-based activity, such as organizing after school student groups. Schools can leverage the integration with Office 365 services to coordinate events and keep track of team files right in the app. Since every Team is backed by Office 365 Groups, schools can even extend their conversations to their broader communities through Yammer or Outlook.   © Microsoft Corporation. Note that Mac/iOS users will have to reinstall Minecraft: Education Edition to access the updated version. Windows 10 Fall Creators Update: Microsoft Edge: Microsoft Edge is becoming a browser built for learning. Read Aloud is available for web content, with text size and page theme available for Reading View. Students and teachers with ink enabled devices will be able to annotate directly on PDF books and documents, and take text notes on ePub books. Additional Microsoft Edge PDF capabilities have been upgraded too, such as form fill support, and the ability to rotate your documents. Photos: The Photos app brings new functionality that introduces students to visual storytelling. It helps them learn the vital skills of visual communication and digital storytelling through an easy to use inbox Windows application. This new functionality was first made available as part of the Windows Insider Program as an update to the Photos app. Recently, the Photos app team started rolling out this functionality to Windows and newer operating systems. Windows 10 automatic redeployment: Windows 10 automatic redeployment streamlines end of year device reset for schools. Administrators can easily start the process with a simple key stroke on the lock screen, entering their admin credentials. Once the process completes, Windows 10 automatic redeployment will have: removed personal files/settings, removed apps, reconnected to WiFi, reapplied provisioning package, preserved MDM, AAD enrollment, and local admin accounts; ending up at the lock screen when complete and ready for the next year. A new policy has been created to allow Windows 10 automatic redeployment to be used on devices managed by IT within schools. LEGO: Together with LEGO® Education, we’ll be offering a new free online Hacking STEM lesson plan that has students use the Pythagorean Theorem to explore and measure topography in 2D/3D space.  Acting as environmental surveyors and engineers, students build tools with LEGO® bricks or cardboard to create and visualize an initial transportation plan for the development of an island national park in Excel. They then bring their national park to life by adding topographic elements in 3D paint.  © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
