Colossians 3.5-9 {7} in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. {8} But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. {9} Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds… {Col } {7} in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. {8} But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. {9} Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds… We have been bought, redeemed from our former lives. We have put on Christ…Gal. 3.27 We have become new creatures…2 Cor. 5.17 We must walk worthy of this calling…Ephesians 4.1 Paul here puts it this way…”Put to death your members which are on the earth” – meaning those thoughts, attitudes, words and actions which are of this world and not according to the will of God And again…”Put off the old man with his deeds” [next]

Romans Therefore, brethren, we are debtors; not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. {13} For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (Rom 8:12-13 NKJV) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors; not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. {13} For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 5 Colossians 3.5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: Fornication Uncleanness Passion Evil desire Covetousness Again in Colossians 3.5… Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: [adv] Fornication [adv] Uncleanness [adv] Passion Evil desire [adv] Covetousness

Fornication Greek word is porneia – Sexual Immorality Any sex outside the man-wife relationship 1 Corinthians 7.2-5 Fornication = Greek word is porneia – [adv] Sexual Immorality [adv] Any sex outside the man-wife relationship (1 Cor 7:2-5 NKJV) Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality (proneia), let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. {3} Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. {4} The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. {5} Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. [continued on next slide]

Fornication Greek word is porneia – Sexual Immorality Any sex outside the man-wife relationship 1 Corinthians 7.2-5 It should be an understood thing…but just in case, Paul mentions it at least a half dozen times: (Eph 5:3 NKJV) But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; (Gal 5:19 NKJV) Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, (1 Th 4:3 NKJV) For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; (1 Cor 5:11 NKJV) But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; not even to eat with such a person. 1 Corinthians 6:18 flee fornication...

Uncleanness Impurity in thought and speech, dirty minded, indecent Ephesians 5.5 Galatians 5.19 Uncleanness: [adv] Impurity in thought and speech, dirty minded, indecent (Eph 5:5 NKJV) For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. (Gal 5:19 NKJV) Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, [next]

Passion Uncontrolled lust or passion, evil desire Romans Thessalonians 4.3-7 Passion: [adv] Uncontrolled lust or passion, evil desire (Rom 1:26 NKJV) For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. (1 Th 4:3-7 NKJV) For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; {4} that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, {5} not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; {6} that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. {7} For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. (1 Cor 5:11 NKJV) But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; not even to eat with such a person. (Eph 5:5 NKJV) For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 20 Conclusion Ephesians “Put off” – Strip off and discard like a filthy and worn-out garment Conclusion [adv] (Eph 4:17-23 NKJV) This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, {18} having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; {19} who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. {20} But you have not so learned Christ, {21} if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: {22} that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, {23} and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, Put off = strip off and discard like a filthy and worn-out garment
