1 The duress & emergency Lift telephone (DET) service
OCN AGM – Jacksons Landing Grant Morrison 18th November 2017

2 DET SERVICE Why do you need det?
As a result of the nbn™ roll out, all buildings with lift services connected via FTTN or FTTB will need to migrate their emergency phone technology to comply with relevant buildings codes and ensure they are not breaching Workplace Health & Safety legislation. DET SERVICE The rollout of the nbn™ network will involve new technologies and some existing devices (including many monitored fire alarms and lift emergency phones) may not be compatible with these at all times

3 DET SERVICE Regulatory considerations
Some regulatory considerations are broadly consistent across most jurisdictions, however building owners/managers should still check with their state or territory work health and safety regulator to confirm specific requirements. Upon migrating their lift phone service, building managers should confirm with their application service provider that any new devices being installed as part of the migration solution for their lift phone service is compliant with Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) regulatory requirements Regulatory compliance and enforcement may also be undertaken as part of random site inspections, including site attendance on other workplace safety matters. 4 DET SERVICE Regulatory considerations
Cellular module located in MDF room Figure 12—diagram showing mobile network pathway (with cellular module/s located in the building MDF room) that can be used to migrate a lift phone service. A single cellular module is shown in this example, but multiple cellular modules can be used. DET SERVICE

5 Physical network outage
What happens if….? Physical network outage x DET SERVICE No internet Dug up cables

6 DET SERVICE What is the det service?
The DET service is a fully monitored and maintained service including the provisioning of the RM4000 DET unit. Using Dual SIM connectivity, the RM4000 will emulate a traditional copper service connection, requiring no other connectivity medium. The RM4000 unit is installed and tested by qualified technicians in either the IDF or MDF and requires no integration or changes to the existing lift phone, cabling or operations. DET SERVICE

7 DET SERVICE How does the det service work?
The DET unit uses Telstra’s cellular network, with an alternative network deployed to ensure the phone is operational 24/7, 365. The DET unit comes standard with twelve hours of battery backup, powering the unit in the event of a power failure. The DET service is proactively monitored by our expert consultants with a comprehensive maintenance schedule ensuring the unit is always connected. The entire service can be included on your monthly Telstra bill. DET SERVICE

12 DET SERVICE WHAT to WATCH for
Other offerings and what needs to be considered: Single SIM offering: A single pathway is outside government guidelines. Even if the SIM is multi service there is no way to ensure that communication to the other services is available. There is no way to test or warn if other services are not available. Supply your own SIM: This is a hidden cost that needs to be factored into the solution. Also, the SIM is unmonitored (only JASPER SIMs can be monitored) and if stolen you are liable for all charges voice and data on the SIM. If the Gateway is monitored the data charges will need to be paid by the owner of the SIM, another variable charge that needs to be considered. DET SERVICE

13 DET SERVICE WHAT to WATCH for
Other offerings and what needs to be considered: Single SIM offering + PSTN/NBN: Cost of PSTN/NBN connection must be considered in cost of solution. Unmonitored Solution: Without monitoring, the guaranteed availability of the service or the dual paths cannot be given. In addition there is no ability to determine that a service call is required. Nor can the quality of the battery performance be guaranteed in an unmonitored solution. Hardware Upgrade: By 2020 the 3G network will be disconnected and there will be a requirement to upgrade SIMs and modems resulting in additional costs. DET SERVICE
