Searching IGI Global Databases
Record structure provides for four main search options: Table of Contents Search Topic Search Keyword Search Bibliographic Search Basic and Advanced Options The interface and search functionality of IGI Global databases were designed with two key concerns in mind: user friendliness, and precise retrieval. The interface is built around four basic search modes: table of contents, topic, keyword, and bibliographic. In addition to these quality search features, InfoSci-Journals subscribers take advantage of free MARC records and journal persistent urls, making linking into online catalogs and course management systems straightforward. IGI Global Databases
15
Search by Topics Content arranged under 23 broad topic headings including: IT Education Electronic Commerce Human Aspects of Technology Health Information Systems Database Technologies and Applications Mobile/Wireless Computing Social Computing Knowledge Management And more… At the broadest level, the database content is arranged into 23 broad categories that, together, cover the full range of research areas in information science and technology. IGI Global Databases
16
Search by Keywords Controlled keywords add precision to retrieval.
Keywords organized into 11 main categories and numerous subcategories. Main categories include: Business Management Education Electronic Commerce Environmental Information Science Library Science Social Science Healthcare And more… Keyword search is the mode that allows the most precise retrieval of specific topics, through an extensive controlled vocabulary that was designed through a combination of compiling terms from authoritative standards organizations, as well as text mining and standardization of terms from the content of IGI Global publications. For ease of access, the keywords are divided into 11 main categories. IGI Global Databases
17
Bibliographic Search Search by bibliographic elements using Basic and Advanced options, including: Author/editor Journal/Book title Article/Chapter title Publication year And more The bibliographic search mode allows for easy search and browse by author or editor name, or by chapter, article, or journal title. Limiting options include document type and publication year. IGI Global Databases
18
Search Results The search results page is a listing with basic information—article/chapter title, year, author, and journal/book title. The user can then browse the listings until a desired document is found. By default, search results are sorted by publication type, showing a brief citation of each document retrieved in a search. IGI Global Databases
19
Abstracts Databases include full, informative abstracts for each article or chapter Complete abstracting and indexing records drill down to a further level of detail on each document, providing an informative summary of the content to enable the user to decide which documents to read in full-text. IGI Global Databases
20
Full-Text in PDF Full-text articles, chapters, and reference entries can then be displayed in PDF. There are no restrictions on printing, saving, or ing the PDFs. Many of our subscribers use the DRM-free research on mobile devices such as iPods and iPhones. Abstract records link to high-quality, near-print PDF displays of the full article or chapter. XML will be available in early 2009! IGI Global Databases

What People Are Saying …
“The high usage level … by students and academics at Open University demonstrates the importance of IGI Global's content in supporting the University's leading edge research and instruction in e-learning, as well as information technology and its broader managerial, organisational, behavioural, and social implications.“ – Claire Grace Electronic Resources Manager, The Open University United Kingdom “…The theoretical bent of many of the topics covered, and the ease of adding chapters to reading lists, makes it particularly good for institutions with strong information science curricula.” – Issues in Science and Technology Librarianship The response by current customers and the industry press since the debut of IGI Global databases has been outstanding. "...delivers excellent content efficiently and satisfyingly. It is priced quite reasonably considering the scope and nature of the material. For all these reasons, it gets a firm I'm reconsidering my reservations about e-books because of this product." – Library Journal (Cheryl LaGuardia, Harvard University)
