1 Tracking of Pipes and Spools inside and outside a Pipe-Shop

2 Loading Pallets inside the Warehouse
Every pallet has a barcode that connects it to a workstation in the pipe-shop Scanning the barcode with a mobile device loads information stored in the database Mobile device instructs which fittings to load onto the pallet

3 Loading Pallets inside the Warehouse
Pallet is loaded with fittings needed for spools that are fabricated in the next shift

4 Loading Pallets inside the Warehouse
Fittings are marked with ID that tells workers at fit-up station which spool they belong to Stored information includes: Heat number Certification number Project number (if needed)

5 Inside the Pipe-Shop Pallets are transported to their designated workstations inside the pipe-shop Pallet barcodes indicate to which workstation they should be transported Upon receiving a cut pipe, the fitters can see which fittings belong to the spool based upon pipe and fitting IDs

6 Loading into the Pipe Dispenser
Every pipe is registered in the database upon loading by the operator Stored information includes: Heat number Certification number Project number (if needed) Loading

7 Loading into the Pipe Dispenser
Pipes can be identified by the order in which they were loaded Pipes can be marked additionally by hand for emergencies Unloading

8 Cutting Stations Cut pieces are marked by ink jet printer or manually with permanent pen Four-digit code makes pipe identifiable at all following stations

9 Cutting Stations Information stored in database includes next processing steps, spool number, project, etc.

10 Cutting Stations Pipe ID remains legible throughout transport and further processing steps All previous information from raw pipe is stored as well (heat number, certification number, etc.) Barcode stickers would get damaged during transport on roller conveyors etc., making it impossible to identify the pipe later on

11 Following Stations Pipe gets transported to next stations automatically Entering pipe ID into PC terminal reveals processing details (and sends fabrication data to machine in case of CNC) Database is updated once processing is finished

12 Following Stations Once all automatic/automated steps are finished, pipe is transported to designated fit-up station Printed or written pipe ID remains on pipe throughout entire automatic/automated process, whereas barcode stickers could get detached from pipe or damaged

13 Fitting Spools at Fit-Up Stations
Upon removing a pipe from the buffer table, the fitter enters the pipe ID into the PC terminal Information stored in database will show which fittings belong to the same spool as the pipe Fittings can be identified by IDs assigned to them upon loading in the warehouse

14 Preparing for Next Steps
Finished spool is marked with metal tag plate with new ID Ink or permanent marker would vanish after further steps, for instance painting Metal tag plates with spool IDs can be produced and delivered to workstations before each shift

16 Finishing Steps – X-Ray Inspection, Surface Treatment, Storage, Assembly
Tag plate is unaffected by further steps, for instance galvanizing (image), painting, etc. Spool can be identified after completed fabrication process and transported to installation destination
