3 The Office Button Open Save Print
The File Menu - is the first tab on the top left corner of the window. The tab contains the commonly used commands, such as Open, Save, and Print. Documents can also be saved to a previous version of Word under the File tab.

4 The Ribbon Grouped Commands
The picture on this slide shows the Ribbon. The Ribbon contains the menus and toolbars. The Ribbon has tabs that contain logically grouped commands.

5 The Ribbon Orientation Margins Size
The tab names clearly indicate the type of commands that are grouped under each tab. For example, you use the Page Layout tab to specify page settings, including orientation, margins, and size. For Task 2 in word processing students use the Home Tab – focusing on the Font, Paragraph and Styles section of the ribbon.

The Ribbon in Word 2010 contains the 8 tabs shown. In this slide the names of the tabs are listed. Can you point out the tabs on the ribbon?

8 Quick Access Bar Save Undo Redo
The Quick Access Toolbar provides access to frequently used commands, such as Save, Undo, and Redo. This toolbar can be docked above or below the Ribbon.

9 Customizing the Quick Access Toolbar
Can be customized You can customize the Quick Access Toolbar by specifying the commands that you want to add to it. Click the down-pointing arrow at the end of the toolbar and click the desired commands.

10 STyles Another new feature of Word 2010 is Styles. The Home tab in the Ribbon contains a section called Styles. Here you can quickly make text a main heading or secondary heading, a title or a quote. These are just some of the choices available.

11 Mini Toolbar The Mini Toolbar is like a shortcut for formatting text. To use the Mini Toolbar, you need to select the text. You can select the formatting option when the Mini toolbar appears. It disappears if you do not point to it. Font size, alignment, and bulleting are formatting options in the Mini Toolbar

12 Zoom Control You can zoom in to get a close-up view of your file or zoom out to see more of the page at a reduced size. On the status bar, click the Zoom slider. Slide to the percentage zoom that you want.

13 How to… Print preview Choose Portrait or Landscape layout
Check word count Text Alignment buttons Look at the list of tasks. Do you know how to do each of these tasks?

14 File extensions .doc .docx is the new file extension for a Word document. Think about other file extensions you know.
