Shows the different steps to produce official statistics
Provides standard terminology to help statistical organisations:
Modernise statistical production processes
Share methods and components

4. The main changes to the GSBPM between versions 4. 0 and 5
The main changes to the GSBPM between versions 4.0 and 5.0 are as follows:
Phase 8 (Archive) has been removed, and incorporated into the over-arching process of data and metadata management, to reflect the view that archiving can happen at any stage in the statistical production process.
A new sub-process: "Build or enhance dissemination components" has been added within the "Build" phase to reflect the growing importance of having a range of dissemination options.
Several sub-processes have been re-named to improve clarity
The descriptions of the sub-processes have been updated and expanded where necessary. The terminology used has been changed to be less survey-centric, in recognition of the growing use of non-survey sources (administrative data, big data etc.).

5. Why do we need the GSBPM?
To define and describe statistical processes in a coherent way
To standardize process terminology
To identify synergies between processes
To compare / benchmark processes between organisations
To inform decisions on systems architectures and organisation of resources

GSBPM is not a linear model in which all steps must be followed in a strict order
It is a matrix , through which there are many possible paths
Some iterations of a regular proces my skip certain sub-processes

10. What is the scope?
All activities undertaken by producers of official statistics which result in data outputs
National and international statistical organisations
All types of data source:
Surveys / censuses
Administrative sources / register-based statistics
Mixed sources
“Big Data”
Geospatial components

11. The GSBPM is a reference model
It is intended that GSBPM may be used by organisations to different degrees.
An organisation may choose to either implement GSBPM directly or use it as the basis for developing an organisation specific adaption of the model.
It may be used in some cases only as a model to which organisations refer when communicating internally or with other organisations to clarify discussion.
The various scenarios for the use of GSBPM exist.
