2 Community Colleges 2-3 years and transfer Transfer Programs
A Degree With A Guarantee IGETC Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) UCs and CSUs take CC transfers before transfers from a 4 year College Community is a great option for many students. Seniors are eligible to attend upon the completion of a high school diploma or GED. The SAT or ACT is not required, however may help with the placement of courses. Majority of students attend for 2-3 years before transferring to a College or University to complete their degree. There are several transfer programs available and it is recommended to meet with a counselor at the community college to review your options. Please note that each College has an allotted amount of spots for transfer students and will be considered before another student who may want to transfer from a 4 year University. Entrance Requirements: Must be 18 years of age OR Earned a high school diploma OR Earned the equivalency of a high school diploma (GED) No SAT or ACT test requirement There are 123 California Community Colleges TWO OPTIONS: 1. Students can receive an Associates Degree (A.A or an A.S) -A basic college or vocational degree that can be earned in approx. two-years if attending full-time 2. Students can choose to transfer to a 4-year University to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science (B.A or B.S) degree. 12 College Applications University Website Admissions Requirements
Application Deadlines Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision Who should apply EA or ED? UC & CSU November 30th Private College/University Consider using Common Application Be sure you are aware of Admission Requirements by visiting the University websites . It is also important to know the deadlines for each college you are applying to. I am going to take a moment to explain Early Decision and Early Action and if this applies to you. Early decision plans are binding — a student who is accepted as an ED applicant must attend the college. Early action plans are nonbinding — students receive an early response to their application but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1.  Applying to an ED or EA plan is most appropriate for a student who: Has researched colleges extensively. Is absolutely sure that the college is their first choice. has found a college that is a strong match academically, socially and geographically. Meets or exceeds the admission profile for the Test Scores and GPA Has an academic record that has been consistently solid over time. Nov 30th is the deadline for the UC/CSU applications. But please do not wait until the last day to apply, we have found that students that wait often have trouble submitting their application due to so many students trying to submit at the same time. Advantages of applying through Common app is that there are over 700 colleges that use this application, it helps you to stay on track with alerts and manage deadlines and also if you speak Spanish there are many resources in Spanish as well.

13 What private schools want to know about you…
Take initiative, self starter, mature, concern for others, sense of humor, ability to work with others Telling signs of maturity… Do you have the ability to work out solutions on your own and seek advice on your own? Do you take charge of your own life? Do you do things in a timely manner? If you are planning on applying to a private school remember that often times you will need a recommendation letter from the counselor and/or teachers so it is a good idea to be thinking about which teacher would write the most solid letter for you. Many people think private schools are too expensive… …however they often give more money in grants and scholarships Apply for financial aid when you apply to the school, NOT after you have been accepted!

14 START TODAY… College List Maintain rigorous academic schedule
Reach Good Fit Safe Maintain rigorous academic schedule Take math senior year! Make this Summer count Build your resume In basic terms, a safety school is one where you are almost positive you would be admitted based on your academic profile. Your GPA and test scores will be notably higher than their average admitted student. A good fit is one where you feel reasonably certain you’d be admitted because your GPA and test scores are similar to the average admitted student. A reach school (or dream school) is one where your academic profile puts you at the lower end of their admitted student spectrum—or perhaps even below. It is less likely that you will be admitted. However, a reach school should still be within the realm of possibility. If your academic profile is lightyears away from the average admitted student, it’s generally not worth the time or money to apply. This isn’t to say you shouldn’t stretch yourself in your college search and application process—you definitely should. You just don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket. Colleges are looking that you continue to take rigorous academic courses in your senior year. YOUR GRADES DO MATTER! For the mid year report colleges will see your trimester 1 grades and they will also get your transcript at the end of the year. Colleges can always resend your acceptance if grades or courses drop. Summer is your time to shine! Be sure you are doing something to better yourself and also consider your applications, so when the opportunity comes up to join an activity, help build houses in another country, or to get a part time job you should put yourself out there and do it! Everything you do from volunteer work to job experience will be great additions to your college application.

15 Questions? You have also received a month to month calendar. It has important dates and resources that will help you organize yourself for the rest of this year into next year. Please look this over and keep it in a save spot. If you have any questions about this presentation or your college search please come by the counseling office during break, lunch or after school to get help. We are here to help support you through your college application process!
