3 Jeffersonians: Democratic-Republicans
Who were the Jeffersonians? Artisans, shopkeepers, frontier settlers, or owners of small farms in the interior regions of the South and West.

4 JEFFERSONIAN ATTITUDES TOWARDS GOVERNMENT
Wanted a government that was more democratic than England’s. 2. Thought that the common people were capable of self-government. They wanted to establish a small property owner's democracy. 3. Thought more people should vote so more people could participate in government. 4. Favored a strict interpretation of the Constitution to limit the powers of the central government and protect state rights. No bank! 5. Wanted a small and weak national government. 6. Supported freedom of speech and press.

Who were the Hamiltonians? Merchants, bankers, manufacturers, or professional men from New England and the Atlantic coast, along with some wealthy farmers and southern planters.

6 HAMILTONIAN ATTITUDES TOWARD GOVERNMENT
1. Admired the English system of government and wished to see it used as a model. 2. Considered the common people ignorant and incapable of self-government. 3. Wanted the elite to vote; distrusted common people. 4. Favored a broad interpretation of the Constitution to strengthen the central government at the expense of states’ rights. Yes bank! 5. Wanted a strong and powerful national government 6. Favored restrictions on speech and the press, under certain circumstances
