2 Johnson Immigration Policy
The 1965 Immigration Act abolished the national-origin quota system that had been executed in the United States since the Immigration Act of 1924. From 1924 to 1965, the U.S. government limited the number of immigrants who could be admitted from any country to 2% of the number of people from that country who were already living in the U.S. in 1890. The Immigration Act of 1924 prohibited immigration from Asia.

3 Domestic Plan As he campaigned in 1964, Johnson declared a "war on poverty." He challenged Americans to build a "Great Society" that eliminated the troubles of the poor and needy. Johnson’s Great Society focused on health care legislation, poverty and civil rights. Medicare- senior citizens Medicaid- welfare recipients who were living below the poverty line All of the following are Congressional acts passed as part of the Great Society

Economic Opportunities Act. Increasing federal aid for education (Head Start) Not passed Americans with Disabilities Act. But he did improve conditions for the disabled

5 Criticism It cost too much money.
It resulted in waste and inefficiency. It gave too much power to the federal government.

6 Other Policies Several of the important decisions of the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren focused on protecting the constitutional rights of citizens accused of crimes. The policy of flexible response helped nations resist Communism by building up conventional troops and weapons.
