There are so many Hindrances to the successful and steady Spiritual Growth of a Christian. For we to properly understand this important discussion, it will be more appropriate that we define some of the key words on our heading.

DEFINITION
HINDRANCES: - Can be defined as the act of obstructing progress, or to make difficult for some one or some thing to pass through.
SPIRITUAL: - Can be simply defined as relating to that which is religious, or sacred activities rather than worldly things.

It is absolutely true that every normal parent takes delight in the healthy growth and development of his child. Parents derive a sort of pleasure, joy, or fulfilment in watching their children grow up in every aspect of life into responsible adults who can be trusted with responsibilities and authority. Parents take pride in speaking about their children’s healthy growth and development, successes and achievements in life.
Likewise, God takes delight in His children healthy growth and development. God loves to see every Christian grow up in all things into Christ. In Heb.5:13, the Hebrew writer declared.

For every one who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe NKJV
God has made abundant provision in the Church for every Christian born into the kingdom to come to the unity of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head – Christ. 7. Hindrances To Spiritual Growth
When a child is not growing or developing healthily and steadily in every aspect – physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise, all those who truly love and care about the child becomes very concerned, troubled, and unhappy. Moreover, the child becomes a burden to his parents and all those around him.
Similarly, when you are not growing up healthily and steadily in every aspect of your life in Christ, you will become a burden and concern to the to the Church and all those around you, all those who genuinely love you in God’s family should be concerned when you are not growing, developing or maturing in the faith as you should.

Faith is a key ingredient in the Christian life. ‘’Heb 11:6’’ declared :
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Lack of faith is often an hindrance in the spiritual growth and maturity of a Christian .
2 Peter 1:5-9
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is short-sighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. NKJV

DULLNESS OF HEARING
DULL – means – slow in perception or sensibility
HEARING: means – to give audience to, or the act of listening It is absolutely true that when one will not listen- he or she will not grow. Dullness of hearing leads to a close mind, and no close minded Christian can grow spiritually.

WORLDLINESS
WORLDLINESS :
can be simply defined as – relating to ,or devoted to this world and its pursuits, rather than religious or spiritual affairs.
When a child of God, after his or her Baptism consider to go back on the affairs of the things of this world, he or she is regarded as worldly. Such a person is falling from the faith, though he or she is still present in church activities – There can be no growth in such a person.

LACK OF STUDY
Lack of study is another major factor that can hinder spiritual growth in the life of a Christian. Spiritual growth and maturity can only be achieved through constant study of the Bible.
Apostle Paul declared in 2 Tim 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Prayer is the medium by which Christians communicate with the Almighty God, the only medium by which we make supplication and thanks giving to the Creator.

We must not neglect prayer as an important factor in our day to day activities as Christians .
Every Christian who do not devote him or her self to prayer cannot grow, because there are so many hindrances on the way that only prayer can help us to over come.
In Lk.22:40, Our Lord Jesus Christ, knowing the importance of prayer said to His disciples, and by implication to every child of God - Pray that you may not enter into temptation.

23. In Eph. 6:12 Apostle Paul declared Hindrances To Spiritual Growth
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. NKJV
Beloved, it is obvious that without prayers, we can do nothing in this evil world. How can any Christian over come the following factors without prayers?

CONCLUSION
God’s desire for every Christian is abundant spiritual growth, but to achieve this , we must be faithful, and be steadfast in His vineyard till the end.
1 Cor.15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. NKJV
