1. TN Department of Safety Interface
The TN Department of Safety Traffic interface will pick up all reportable offenses from all agencies where a traffic citation has been written. All file layouts can have all agencies (local PD, Sheriff, THP, etc.) ticket information excluding type 4 which is THP tickets only.

2. Type 1 records (Abstracts)
Abstracts: are used to report non-trooper convictions (including reduced charges) of reportable offenses from the Court to the Tennessee Department of Safety. TDOS will post the action to the Defendant’s driver record, and may take other Driver Improvement actions as necessary and proper.

3. Type 2 records (Suspension/Withdrawal)
Suspension/ Withdrawals, are used to report suspension instances where a defendant has: a: failed to appear to face charges covered under the Non Resident Violator Compact (NRVC) or b: has failed to pay fines and fees related to convictions of charges covered in the NRVC or c: has otherwise failed to comply with the court in relation to charges under the NRVC..
TDOS will post the FTA action to a Tennessee defendant’s driving record, send them notification, and will suspend the license if the defendant does not provide proof of compliance within a specified time limit. For nonresident (Out of State) defendants, the TDOS will notify their home jurisdiction Driver License agency, who will, per the NRVC, take the same actions.
This file layout is also used to withdraw proposed suspension under the NRVC when the court is satisfied by the defendant (Pays or Appears). TDOS will stop a Tennessee resident’s suspension, when received it in time, and will forward a non-residents withdrawal to their home jurisdiction.

4. Type 3 records (Paid in Full)
Paid in Full, Under Tennessee law, revoked drivers are not eligible for reinstatement until they prove they have satisfied the courts of all fines and fees due. A court may electronically certify to TDOS a Defendant has paid a mandatory revocation conviction by transmitting a type “3” court certified Paid in Full action report. TDOS will take the transmitted Court Action and post it to the Defendant’s Driver History record for reference during the reinstatement process.

5. Type 4 records (Trooper Ticket)
Trooper Ticket: Since the Tennessee Highway Patrol is part of the Tennessee Department of Safety, TDOS takes extra steps to reconcile Trooper ticket dispositions. This file contains all dispositions (both convictions or dismissed) as Type “4” for all tickets issued by the TN Highway Patrol in lieu of Type “1” abstracts. All tickets, even nonmoving violation offenses that would not be reported in type 1 abstract file, should be reported on type “4” tickets.
TDOS processes these much like type “1” abstracts, except that they are routed to the Trooper Ticket system rather than directly to Driver History. The Trooper Ticket System forwards convictions of reportable driver violations to the Driver History System.

6. Type 5 records (Abstract Exception)
Abstract Exception: The TDOS automated court action reporting system routes these to the attention of Ticket Unit staff for exceptional manual processes. Nonresident convictions are forwarded to the Defendant’s home Driver License agency.
*Use Abstract Exceptions to send corrections of previously reported Court Actions. Use the comment field to explain what is being corrected.
*Use Abstract Exceptions to report Mandatory Revocation convictions. The Ticket Unit Staff will review the Defendant’s driver record, calculate the date they will be eligible for reinstatement, and post the revocation to the Driver History system for further automated actions.
*Use Abstract Exception to report Out of State Tennessee nonresident convictions. The conviction will be routed to the Defendant’s home jurisdiction driver license agency for further action. If the conviction was for a major offense, the TDOS Ticket staff will also record it in our state’s driving record.
*Use Abstract Exceptions to report court actions where there is missing or inconsistent data, for example an unlicensed driver. TDOS Ticket Staff will research and process the court action

7. Type 7 records (Driver School)
Driver School: The TDOS automated system will post the defendant was granted driver traffic school to the Defendant’s Driving record for later reference.
