Silicon was identified as a part of silica rock in 1787 by Antoine Lavoisier. However Jon Jacob Berzelius discovered Silicon as an element in 1823 to 1824 in which was formed by compounds that include silicone as he was able to extract and isolate from.

Silicon may be used to produce silicones which are flexible, plastics that are water and chemical resistant.
Plants mostly grasses need to use silicon in order to metabolize and grown.
