The budget was passed on Monday, May 8th
$100 increase per student, totaling $7,281.

7. HB 7069: Lawsuit
On July 5, 2017, the School Board of Broward County (SBBC) authorized the General Counsel and Superintendent to retain outside counsel in collaboration with other school districts for the purpose of filing a legal challenge to House Bill 7069.
SBBC authorized this legal challenge in regards to the constitutionality of the following items amended by HB 7069:

Standard Charter Contracts
Schools of Hope
Charter Schools as Local Education Agencies (LEA)
Sharing Discretionary Local Millage with Charter Schools
Title I
Following Broward’s actions, 13 other school boards across the state have joined the litigation efforts. The School Board continues to advocate for a legislative “fix” and Broward County Public Schools will continue to advocate for legislation that benefits our students and teachers.
