5 School Improvement Plan Focus
By 2017, Parkland Magnet Middle School students will show increased achievement with specific emphasis on Hispanic, African American, SPED, and LED students through planning, implementing, and adjusting classroom best practices that meet the needs of the diverse student population of our school through differentiated and culturally relevant instruction based on multiple means of assessment and analysis of assessment results. *We will be having a meeting open to families, students, and staff to review and discuss our school improvement plan data after each quarter throughout the year.

6 Building upon our success
We will continue to add additional high school credited courses to our 8th grade science curriculum to prepare our students for the future Develop and choose electives that meet the needs of our students Provide additional STEM opportunities for students to get real world experiences inside and outside of the classroom After school and Aftercare program to meet the needs of our students and families Continue to seek grant opportunities that enrich the growth and development of our students

Check edline regularly Check the agenda book on a nightly basis Provide a safe, quiet place for your child to complete his/her homework Contact your child’s teacher via if you have concerns Contact Mr. Szymkowiak, Mr. Schwartz if you feel you need a parent/teacher conference

21 Milestone 6th grade will be starting the Milestone mid November in Mission Planet Earth and will work on the components through Mission Planet Earth, World Studies, Math, English, and Comparative Planetology & Orbital Mechanics

23 Cell Phone/Electronic Devices Policy
Our school cell phone/electronic devices policy is that every student should have their cell phone/electronic devices turned off and out of sight from 7:55 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Students may use their phone once the dismissal bell rings at 3:00 p.m. This is to allow students to contact their parents/families after school.

38 Choice form (Round 1) •Application only forms are due by November 4th
•Forms were mailed nonprofit last week, so it may take some time before you receive your form in the mail. •Application only forms are due by November 4th • If you have moved, you’ll need to update your address before your child can receive a new choice form. •Please make sure the form is filled out completely, with both student and parent signatures. •Students living outside of the DCC will be able to participate in Round 2, which takes place in February. Forms are due February 10th . •  If you have specific questions about the academies, please reach out to the program coordinators at that specific school.

39 If your child is applying to an application only program, please mail or drop off the application directly to the high school along with the $65.00 fee for the test.   Testing will occur Dec. 3rd at either Blair, Richard Montgomery or Poolesville, depending on your home school.
