2 The Columbian Exchange
Term given to the transfer of plants and animals between Europe and the colonies in the New World. This was both good and bad!

3 Good With the introduction of horses, Native Americans had a new form of transportation. As new crops were introduced to Europe, food production increased.

5 Bad European diseases were also introduced to Native Americans (they had no natural immunity). It was not just plants and animals that were exchanged. People were sold into slavery.

6 Millions of slaves were brought to the Americas from Africa to work on plantations.
Slave labor allowed many Europeans to earn huge profit from crops grown in the Americas.

8 The economic activities of Europe, Africa, and the Americas were interdependent. (Triangular trade depended on all 3 continents)

10 Mercantilism was an economic system in Europe that said for a country to have power, it must have wealth. This justified slavery to many Europeans. Mercantilism eventually led to capitalism.

11 The Americas were heavily influenced by Europe
The Americas were heavily influenced by Europe. Settlers (with certain customs and values) , languages, and even religions came from Europe to North and South America when colonies were formed.

13 Europeans formed missions in the New World and introduced Christianity to Native Americans.
