12 NSO Modernization Strategy “Initial Considerations”
20-Sep-18 JFT

13 NSO Modernization Strategy
The process of modernizing the delivery of training and education at NATO School Oberammergau will be the result of a structured and deliberate process with well defined goals and outcomes which will drive capability investment. In order to develop our modernization strategy NSO is actively engaged in the following activities: Conducting an external survey of students who have attended training at NATO school over the past three years. Exploring a wide range of technologies and approaches to instructional delivery (mobile learning, virtual reality, augmented reality, micro learning, lecture capture, flipped classroom) Assessing the feasibility of these technology solutions through the application of the SECTIONS model. Reviewing lessons learned from other organizations.

14 Driving Factors behind NSO Academic Modernization
NSO needs to reach more students – Many NSO courses are over subscribed and new courses are needed to meet NATO E&IT requirements. Not all E&IT solutions fit neatly into a 5 or 10 day course. Many technologies have matured to a point where it is now possible to offer high quality educational experiences in a cost effective manner. The broader educational and societal environments are changing and students have expectations based on these changes. NSO has used the same model of delivery for over 60 years. Technology is allowing us to things that were previously too difficult or costly.

15 NSO Initial Assessment Suggests
Virtual Classroom Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) / NSO Tablet on WIFI Lecture Capture Selected Flipped Classroom Activities Enhanced Distance Learning Modules
