1 Five Ways to Explain it I want you to come up with five different ways you can explain where you are from to someone else and tell me where they are from. For instance I would say I am from America to someone from Croatia because he wouldn’t know where Atlanta is

These 8 There are 159 counties in Georgia 2nd most in the US (behind Texas) The constitution of established the first eight counties of Georgia The original goal of the county system is to establish the state representatives (now population driven)

5 Take a Seat Each County has a county seat like a capital city (Rockdale is Conyers) The seat was set up to be the distance for a farmer to get from any part of the county to the county seat Most US counties are controlled by an elected board of Commissioners

A county has many different functions like elections, road building, auto licensing, welfare and the courts County Commissioners usually sit on a board to establish the way a county should work Some counties in GA have only one County Commissioner GA is the only state with both a board and a single one Calling all Commissioners

8 Elected officials Sheriff – The chief law enforcement official in a county Tax Commissioner – In charge of tax collection Clerk of the Superior Court – keeps court records, administers oaths, and is the keeper of the court seal. Judge of the Probate Court – oversees estates, marriages, adoptions, name changes, etc.
