1 NERVOUS SYSTEM PROBLEMS

2 HEADACHE Pain associated in the head and neck area.
Headaches could be the result of… stressed or tightened muscles inflamed, constricted blood vessels irritated nerve endings

3 CONCUSSION Violent jarring or shaking that results in a disturbance of brain functions. A concussion may result when the head strikes an object or an object strikes the head. Concussion may produce unconsciousness, memory loss, or bleed of the brain

4 SEIZURE Seizures are episodes of disturbed brain function that cause changes in attention or behavior. They are caused by abnormally excited electrical signals in the brain.

6 NUMBNESS Numbness is usually caused by irritation or compression of a branch of a nerve in the Peripheral Nervous System.

7 PARALYSIS Loss of feeling and mobility in a certain area of the body.
Nerve damage doesn’t allow messages between to and from the brain to be delivered.

8 ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE Destroys nerve cells in the brain, causing memory loss and problems with thinking and behavior.

9 PARKINSON’S DISEASE Damaged or dead dopamine producing cells.
DOPAMINE chemical that produces smooth movement of muscles This causes the nerve cells to fire wildly, leaving patients unable to control their movements. Causes… tremor, or trembling in hands, arms, legs, jaw, and face rigidity, or stiffness of limbs and trunk slowness of movement impaired balance and coordination.

11 MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS MS is caused by damage to the myelin sheath, the protective covering that surrounds nerve cells. A person’s immune system eats away at the myelin sheath. When this nerve covering is damaged, nerve impulses are slowed down or stopped. Causes numbness, loss of vision, loss of balance, memory loss, hearing loss, inability to swallow or chew, dizziness, etc.

12 LOU GEHRIG’S DISEASE (ALS)
Is caused by a genetic defect. Motor neurons waste away or die, and can no longer send messages to muscles. This eventually leads to muscle weakening, twitching, and an inability to move the arms, legs, and body. Eventually, impossible to breathe or swallow.

13 HUNTINGTON’S DISEASE Is caused by a genetic defect.
Interneurons (brain cells) waste away or die. Causes personality changes, anger, difficulty with memory, learning, and making decisions. Causes balance problems, clumsiness, and jerky movements
