4 11/21/2016 4 What vocabulary instruction will be given to my child? KNOWSYS Vocabulary: The students will use the flashcards or app everyday at home and/or at school for practice. One group of words a week ranging from 8-12 words. In class, students will participate in activities and take quizzes each Friday over the assigned group of words. It is important that they purchase these flashcards/app; if they do not, they will have to manually make them each week which is a time consuming process. TO ORDER: 1. Go to Amazon.com 2. Search for “Knowsys Educational Services” 3. Select the Knowsys products you want You can buy the App from the App Store (apple) or From Google Play (android)

8 11/21/2016 8 What will my child be doing on Reading Thursday? Reading is RELEVANT and the more we read the better we apply, connect, and write our thoughts. The 7 th graders will read a text on a continual basis that will assign specific outcomes every week of each 9 weeks period. (This is not AR.) We will connect our reading to writing necessary to improve skills. This will directly tie to our curriculum & content.

10 11/21/2016 10 Will my child have homework? Yes! Your child should be reading at home. There will be additional homework weekly with Knowsys vocabulary.

11 11/21/2016 11 What if my child turns in an assignment late? Formative and Summative Late Work Policy: 1st day late – 10 pts lost 2nd day late – 20 pts lost 3rd day late – phone call home. Grade will be a ZERO if not turned in by end of 3 week grading period per UIL rules.

12 11/21/2016 12 What if my child is absent? Upon any absence, please be SURE the child returns with a note for the Attendance Officer. After the third day, parents can request make-up work through the office. If you do not want to wait for three days, you may check the website or email me if you have any questions.

13 11/21/2016 13 Grades Parents may view grades online using HAC. There is a link on the district’s website. A progress report is issued every three weeks of each nine weeks grading period. If a student’s average is 74 or below, your child will receive a detailed progress report that shows each assignment and grade. These progress reports must be signed by a parent and returned to the teacher. Parents may also email me if they would like an update on their child’s progress.
