1 Camping at Suntrap since 1969
Raising Achievement - Outdoors

2 Camping in our private field NOT the forest

3 The camping shelter was built with a grant in 2002

4 Renewable resources. Wind and solar power provide renewable electricity for the camping shelter.

5 There are 2 camps a week throughout the summer.
Children stay for 3 days/2 nights or 2 days/1 night.

6 2 or 3 boys or girls in a tent.

7 Group cooperation necessary when putting up or taking down their tents.

8 We provide blankets and mattresses.

9 Camp supervision and safety
Children supervised 24 hours All Suntrap staff are trained in first aid.

10 The children use the washing/toilet facilities in Suntrap building.
The loo tent is for night time emergency use.

11 Luggage Luggage bags are left in the camp shelter – there isn’t a lot of room for bags and children in the tents!

12 Food and mealtimes Healthy Choice All diets catered for Please let teachers know of any dietary needs of your child

13 New, shared experiences

14 Everyone joins in to help with jobs;
Washing up – a life skill! Everyone joins in to help with jobs; collecting water washing up drying up cleaning the tables sweeping the floor

15 Day bag containing packed lunch, notebook and pencil.
What to bring… Day bag containing packed lunch, notebook and pencil. Wellies/shoes/raincoat NOT packed with luggage. Sleeping bag & pillow packed in labelled bin liner, (+ spare labelled bin liners!). Mention that extra food and sweets not necessary and not allowed in tents.

16 At least 2 changes of clothing, warm jumper/fleece.
Warm things to sleep in. Clothing…. At least 2 changes of clothing, warm jumper/fleece. Wash kit, including towel. torch Books/comics and small games for ‘quiet’ moments! Cameras are good but don’t send anything expensive. Mention no showers, use building facilities

17 Sun cream, lip salve and a hat for hot sunny days.
All medicines given to class teacher. Clearly labelled with dosage instructions. Remember hay fever can be a problem in summer Sun cream, lip salve and a hat for hot sunny days. Mention all suntrap teachers are qualified first aiders A watch so that they know it is only 4.30am! And finally…

18 Curriculum work during the day in the forest.
Not just ‘nature’ and science but also…. ….art, history, language….
