Common Errors in Your Writing
Errors in MLA formatting and in-text citations Moving in and out of past tense Using state of being verbs (let’s discuss the importance of this) Moving into your second “reds” with “this quote means” or “this shows” or “this proves” Figurative language? When is it not enough? When is it TOO much? , right? IS NOT A RHETORICAL QUESTION it’s too informal TITLES Too much B/K; moving into summary RATHER than analysis Numbers are SPELLED OUT: “fifteen” not “15” “two million” not “2 million” Never mention page numbers in the text (e.g. on page 3, “ “). Read your paper aloud to someone or record yourself. When you try so hard to use active verbs, sometimes your sentences no longer makes sense.
