1 Transform Lessons Through Technology
Are we using technology in our classes to make traditional teaching more efficient, or are we using technology to create a learning experience that could not be accomplished without it?

2 Got TPACK? Information taken from presentation by: Martina Greene Dean of Faculty Cary Academy

3 What is TPACK? Refers to three domains of teacher knowledge
Technological Knowledge Pedagogical Knowledge…Teaching Techniques Content Knowledge Teachers must be able to understand and negotiate the relationships between all three knowledge bases in order to leverage technology effectively to support student learning.

4 TPACK Model

5 Parallel uses of technology for teaching and learning
using technology to make traditional methods of teaching easier or more efficient. Using CMS/LMS to post assignments, calendar homework, and provide reference materials. Digitizing worksheets Creating on-line quizzes Providing notes via PowerPoint Showing video clips

6 Transformative uses of technology for teaching and learning
using technology to create a learning experience that could not be accomplished without technology. Students use digital manipulatives to explore a concept. Students create representations and illustrations of professional quality. Students communicate with experts in the community. Students work in a collaborative space in which a teacher can follow their contributions to the task.

7 Digital Writing Communities
Establishing school-wide blogs Setting guidelines while allowing for individual expression Providing accessibility and safety Image. Messianic Good News,. NewsMGN> 1 August 2013.

8 Why a school-wide blog? Allows students autonomy in terms of design and enhancement, incorporating the use of many Web 2.0 tools. Amplifies student self-expectation: Students know they’re being seen, and there’s power in that knowledge. Creates real transparency in terms of allowing parents to see what their students are doing in the classroom. Supports our commitment to assist our students with the skills they need for effective digital citizenship. Allows students a meaningful way to reflect and develop critical thinking skills. Establishes a positive digital footprint that can follow students into colleges and careers.

9 Interesting Practices
“Blogwalking” Creating individual course portfolios Collaborating Tagging and Evaluating Contributing to/replacing school publications

10 Major considerations Which system do we want to use? Word Press highly recommended. Need training on blogging and wikis. IT Department usually sets up blog framework in which we operate. What do we want to require and what do we want to leave to the students? Must educate students on meaningful and appropriate commentary and responsible digital citizenship.

Learning in a global community important. Connects us with others and flattens the world. His major point – our students must control the conversation so others (mass media, political interests, corporations, etc.) don’t. Jwhipple.wikispaces.com
