2 Citing Your Sources When referring to evidence and information from passages, students should use paraphrasing and short quotations. To credit sources, students should use informal, in-text citations (e.g., MLA author or title tags).

4 Citing Your Sources Ex: The text “In Praise of Careful Science” says “Most of the time, scientists work for decades and make very few mistakes.”

5 Or, you can use a tag at the end of the sentence: Ex: Romantic poetry is described as the "spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” (Wordsworth). Author Tag

Ex: The Scottish had different patterns that showed what clan a person was in (McClellen and Bree). Author Tag

7 Citing Your Sources If you don’t know the author, use all or part of the title. Ex:"Standardized tests could effectively measure student understanding" (American Testing). Title Tag
